Cameron wasn’t sure how to react. It was his natural instinct to support Wren. They had grown up as best friends, and had blossomed into more. Wren’s face reflected a mixture of hope and fear. Cameron wanted to hug her, and comfort her, and most of all thank her. And he would’ve done it.
If he wasn’t so mad.
“You’re not joking?!” Ashe asked, his lip curling slightly, “You really sent an audition video to him? Why?” Wren’s lip trembled, and she hung her head,
“He’s going on tour, and was looking for openers, and I…I thought you guys would be happy.” Brady gave her an irritated look, but was smart enough to not say anything he would regret later. He just walked out of the garage. A few minutes later, his car started up and drove out of the driveway. A tear ran down Wren’s face.
“WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!” Ashe suddenly exploded, Cameron moved to step between Ashe and Wren, but Wren shook her head, she wasn’t afraid of Ashe.
“I…I…” Wren started openly crying, as Ashe shook his head in disgust.
“You had to pick him?! Jesus Emiliana, do you want us to look like a JOKE? In front of THE WHOLE COUNTRY?!” Wren sniffled at her real name, and shook her head quickly.
“I wanted us to actually get somewhere…you were supposed to be happy…”
“Happy? HAPPY? Happy that I was going to be laughed at by everyone I know? Happy that my own step sister doesn’t take me seriously as a musician? I joined your stupid little band, I played along with your mom, let you live with me while my dad and her ran off to be in the Air Force. But this? This is how you try to repay me? Forget about it, Emiliana,” he sneered, and Wren cast her eyes down, “I’m done with you.” With that Ashe stormed out of the garage, to his house, next door. Wren turned to Cameron, her blue eyes glassy, looking like they were about to break.
“Are…you…going…to…” She choked out before starting to bawl, and Cameron quickly closed the distance between them, and wrapped his arms around her.
“It’s okay…” He mumbled into her hair, over and over again. But he knew it wasn’t okay. Not to Wren. It was her biggest dream to meet Greyson Chance. And she now had the chance to tour with him. But, as Brady and Ashe had so kindly left him alone, he was the one who had to crush that dream. “Let’s sit down.” Cameron gently guided her still shaking frame to the red couch that they had in the corner of the garage. They sat down, Wren curled up on Cameron’s lap, and he stroke her hair. “Wren…I’m sorry but…”
“We can’t tour with him. I know.” He voice rattled, like it was just bouncing around inside an empty shell. “I want to fly to California though. His manager booked us plane tickets for Sunday. I want to go.” Cameron nodded slowly, today was Friday. She could go Sunday, and stay for a couple days in L.A., get away from Ashe for a few days, so he could calm down and come to his senses. It was Thanksgiving break anyway.
“Okay…” Cameron nodded again, “If you really want to go, I’ll drive you to the airport myself.” Wren sat still for a second, thinking.
“Cameron?” She asked quietly,
“Yeah baby?” Cameron cooed, afraid that Wren would start crying again,
“Can I stay here until Sunday? I don’t really want to see Ashe right now.” Cameron mentally laughed, at Wren’s unsure tone. Like he would deny her anything.
“Of course baby.” He said with a smile, glad he could finally give her something.
