Greyson sat quietly, waiting for Guy to come back with another armful of audition DVD’s. His laptop was black, waiting for yet another singer’s face to show up. He reached for a handful of popcorn from the large bowl, coming up with three small hard kernels. Greyson groaned, wondering if he had enough time to make another bowl, before Guy came back. He decided against it, he was just too lazy. He and Guy had been watching videos since five in the morning, each one more unique than the next. Everyone was so fan, or singer, or band, hoping to impress them with their skills. They had already watched 564 different audition videos, and still they had zero openers. Greyson’s thoughts were interrupted by Guy coming in with about thirty more DVD’s. Greyson sighed audibly, and leaned back into the couch, crossing his arms across his favorite Beatles shirt.
“Excited much?” Guy asked sarcastically, as he stuck a disk into the disc drive.
“What clued you in?” Greyson yawned, and Guy chuckled to himself. Guy reached for the popcorn bowl, and frowned at its cavernous emptiness. He eyed the revolving white circle on the laptop wearily, and thought over his choices.
“Want more popcorn?” Guy asked, still watching the loading circle. Greyson yawned again, though this time it was slightly more exaggerated.
“Can you season it with coffee?” Guy crinkled his nose.
“No. You’ll have to make do with fat free butter.” Greyson sighed, and shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
“Fine. Hurry back.” Guy glared at the still turning circle, willing it to slow down, or even stop. He was really quite done with these amateur audition videos. Half of them were just fans asking Greyson to follow them on Twitter.
“I’ll try.” Guy turned out of the room, and Greyson rolled his eyes back to screen. He looked down, noticing a spider crawling around the floor. He sat really still, until the spider crawled near his shoe. He squirmed a little, trying not to scream. Last time he had screamed like a little girl, and Guy wouldn’t cut him any slack about it for a month. Even worse, Guy had told Cody, who still found it hilarious to randomly yell “Oh my God! A SPIDER!” whenever Greyson was least expecting it.
“Hey Guy…” Greyson called, to no response. “Gu-”
“Hey!” Greyson looked up startled, forgetting the spider for a moment. He found himself looking into blue eyes, clear as glass, a pale white face with rosy cheeks, and a mess of auburn brown hair. The girl on the screen looked about his age, maybe a little older.
“Hi…” He said stupidly, before remembering it was just a video. He blushed, forgetting she couldn’t see it.
“My name’s Wren, and let me start by saying, I’m a huge fan! You’ve really inspired me to become an artist…” Oh great, just another fan. Greyson pouted slightly, but continued watching. “I know I’m the only one in the video, but I’m actually auditioning for my band.” Greyson perked up slightly at this, a girl band might be exciting to have on the tour! “Our name is Romeo’s Downfall, but the name is unfortunately under jurisdiction. None of the guys really like the Romeo and Juliet aspect. Or the fact that any of them ‘may have a downfall’.” ‘Guys.’ Well there goes the girl band idea. She probably had a boyfriend anyway…wait, did he just think that? “I guess you want the other guys’ names. Well, I’m the lead vocalist, then there’s Ashe, our bass guitarist, and backup vocalist, Brady, our guitarist, and Cameron who’s our drummer, lead male vocalist, and-” Please don’t say it, Greyson thought, “my boyfriend.” Greyson’s face fell slightly, yep, she said it. “You probably also want to actually see us perform…this video is a surprise for the guys, so they’re obviously not here. So…I’ll just edit in a video…right…here.” Suddenly the video switched over to a taped band practice, it looked like the band equipment was set up in a garage. Every member was set up with their instruments, except for Wren.
“Wren!” the guy sitting at the drums called, Greyson figured it was Cameron, “Tell me again why we’re doing this?” Wren’s voice came from the laptop, but she was no where to be seen,
“Because! I want a video of us performing!”
“So naturally she gets it.” A guy with a cherry red guitar, Brady, confirmed.
“Exactly.” Wren enthused, before stepping in front of the camera. She must’ve been setting it up on the tri-pod. Then she walked back to the microphone, and waited for Cameron to set the beat. Once he started, the other two fell in, and Greyson nodded his head in time to the music. It had a rockish vibe, with pop undertones. Greyson actually enjoyed it; it kind of reminded him of Paramore.
Then Wren started singing.
I used to wonder
How we would turn out
Now we both know
And I just want to shout
I don’t feel a thing
Maybe I never did
I’m all alone
You went and hid
Done with your magic
And all your lies
You left me scared
You left me traumatized
I’m not sorry
I won’t apologize
For the tears on your face
Or the sadness in your eyes
It wasn’t my fault
You decided on her that day
Those three words
I could never say
It’s time for this to stop
Maybe just once more
Now you know I know
And we’ll settle the score
I’m kinda happy with our ending
No more vicious lies
No more stupid pretending
I’m not sorry
I won’t apologize
For the tears on your face
Or the sadness in your eyes
Though we can’t escape
The clutches of your tirade
That gorgeous hero with his cape
An evil villain was he made
On the floor laughing
With tears on his face
Pain always surpassing
His one saving grace
Too weak to say hello
Too excited to say goodbye
Live is left for living
The race ends with a tie
I’ll always be sorry
But I’ll never apologize
For the tears on your face
The relief in my eyes
You had all you wanted
But you could never see
That Romeo was you
And Juliet was me
As Wren bowed her head, and the video clicked off, leaving the laptop once again blank, Greyson felt himself staring in awe. He couldn’t believe how amazing it was.
“GUY!” Greyson yelled at the top of his lungs, and Guy burst in with a wooden spoon, and an amused look in his eyes.
“What Grey? See another spider?” Greyson shook his head, not even minding the jab.
“Guy, I’ve found our opener.”
“Excited much?” Guy asked sarcastically, as he stuck a disk into the disc drive.
