The Grammy nominations have been announced and since the winner of most of the major awards is a foregone conclusion, I thought it was time that we discuss our favorite music/albums of 2011 to see what else is out there! So, post your favorite albums below, or which ones you thought were the best.
One of the reasons I am doing this is that I don't have much of a list this year. Last year (2010) was a fantastic year to me as far as music goes, but this year not so much. I might add to this later on as things occur to me, but I can only come up with three albums released this year that I truly loved. I hope other people can list something that I am missing b/c I know there had to be something else good out there.
(1) Elsie - The Horrible Crowes (i.e. Brian Fallon)
Favorite Song: "Blood Loss" -> www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsnlde5RG2o
I know nobody has heard of this band considering it is the side project of the frontman of a pretty little known band called The Gaslight Anthem. However, Brian Fallon can do no wrong in my book and this album lived up to all my expectations. Brian's rough, haunting voice is perfect on these more mellow songs and it is probably my favorite album of his thus far.
(2) Pickin' Up The Pieces - Fitz & The Tantrums
Favorite Song: "Don't Gotta Work it Out" --> www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qDbSS-uoIM
I'm kind of cheating b/c this album came out in August 2010, but I didn't discover it until this year. This band has really exploded in recent months. They aren't doing anything new or different, but they do what they do really well. I am a complete sucker for the motown sound of their songs. I saw them recently and they put on a fantastic, energetic show!
(3) Ceremonials - Florence and the Machine
Favorite Song: Not sure yet
I've only listened to this album 2.5 times so far, but I am loving it. Like most Americans, I first discovered them at the 2010 VMAs and pretty much loved "Lungs." Florence's voice can get a little annoying at times, but they've released two solid albums back-to-back. It'll be interesting to see if any of these songs get radio play like "Dog Days Are Over" ended up getting. I haven't heard anything so far, but I don't listen to the radio all that often.
