Ok, last topic for the evening b/c I have a "last day of classes" party to go to tonight. Tomorrow I will work on promotion, est. a set of guidelines, etc. Thanks to everyone who has joined in so far.
I guess this topic can be interpreted in any number of ways, but what I was trying to get at was if somebody didn't know who Greyson was, what one song would you play for them, or what one YouTube video would you show them to try and get them to see why he is so great?
This is my answer to the question:
Something about the fact that this was his first real public performance after having been "discovered" and it just happened to be in front of a crowd of 15-20k people (most of whom probably had no idea who he was) and he got the crowd engaged, and completely nailed it.

I don't think I have actually ever watched that the whole way through but wow, that must of been nerve wracking for him!

I always liked his performance of “Empire State of Mind” at Joe’s Pub in NYC; but if I had to choose just one, I guess I would have to go along with you. The WeDay performance in Canada does show the complete package: piano skills, totally unique vocal skills, ability to connect with a crowd, ability to ad lib etc.
I liked this review at the time:
Rave Reviews for Greyson Chance! WEDAY CANANA 1--2010 Last week, Greyson Chance gave his largest performance yet at Canada's We Day event. One event representative who saw it live said, "He is truly special. The response to his performance was unreal. I was right beside the stage he was performing on, and I was all tears the entire performance. The media were blown away too, and some said it was the most real and inspiring live performance they'd ever seen!"

I agree about that performance of "Empire State of Mind" at Joe's. It was fantastic as well.
That WeDay performance was the one when I said to myself "this kid is no fluke." He was pretty great on Ellen both times, but the way he handled being in front of that huge crowd all by himself was pretty remarkable to me. Plus his performance was great too.
I think it is interesting how people can have different perceptions though. My friend who is all about Bieber (yes, he is 25 as well) really didn't think much of Greyson. He thought the Paparazzi video was good, but he wasn't impressed by the WeDay performance. I also sent him that video of "Empire State of Mind" and he didn't say anything to me about that one either. However, the night Greyson was on Jimmy Fallon he DVRd it and the next morning I woke up to an e-mail "Just watched Greyson's performance from last night. That kid has IT!"

I hadn't seen the Joes's Pub video in a while so I just went to watch it, and poor Greyson, when he yells "Come on New York!" No body does anything Still an amazing performance, as always I've yet to actually find any recording of him messing up or not sounding great... -Edit, Except however, ironically, in the original posting of Paparazzi. Anyone else ever notice how he forgets the line "eyeliner and cigarettes" And pauses to think, then just says "cigarettes"?

He is a guy singing the song. I just figured that once he became a "professional" singer that it didn't matter 'cos some rockstars wear eyeliner.

I'm sure you are right. Not only was he a a GUY, Greyson was merely a 12 yr old "weird" "outcast", subject to teasing and bullying at school by the rap fans and jocks who mocked his taste in music. Ironically his suffering bore fruit by motivating him to reply to his tormentors by doing what he does best, music. The message is clearly spelled out in his lyrics. YOU CAN get over the bad times and leave the pain and hurt behind. DON'T GIVE UP, things WILL get better! We have yet to hear Greyson's most explicit statement on this subject in the long awaited song, Purple Sky.
Personally I must confess to rating him as a good but not outstanding performer. Similar to his friend Cody Simpson. In 10/20 years though he could be the next Bob Dylan. That's in the future.
It's one year since I chanced (yeah) upon a strangely compelling video of a school choir performance. The next day I watched it again. The following day I ... (you know the rest). Against my will I'M STILL HOOKED!
So it's no contest. For me Greyson's Single Greatest Performance is NOW AND FOR EVER the shaky video made by his unsuspecting dad on 28th April 2010.
From little seeds miracles do flow.

I always thought he did that deliberately too - after all, can you imagine his peers' reaction to a 12 year old boy singing about using eyeliner?! OK, cigarettes aren't too appropriate for a young boy but everyone knows that kids do get hold of them and at least they're moderately "cool". Just another sign of Greyson's wisdom, I think.
