Does anyone know how many different versions of HOTTN are out there in different countries around the world? I seem to remember conversations about different bonus tracks in different countries.
Question two: Since you can't buy these different copies through normal channels, it doesn't seem like they are doing it to get more money out of the fans. So, what is the point of depriving some fans because they (we) don't happen to live in the right marketing area. Why not offer everything, to everyone, everywhere ?
Anyone know the answer? Or can anyone make an educated guess.

Not sure, but all I really know is that I'm insanely jealous. As for different versions; the Phillipines [totally botched that name, sorry!] got Running Away as a bonus track, and to the best of my knowledge the song Slipping Away was a UK bonus, or a US bonus. I'm not aware of the other bonuses though.

1. Physical CD released in the U.S. with 10 songs. 2. Physical CD released in the Philippines with 11 songs (original 10 including "Running Away") 3. Digital version released on U.S. iTunes with 11 songs (original 10 including "Slipping Away") - though you could also buy "Slipping Away" as an individual track
That is what I think off of the top of my head. There are probably more, but I don't know.
Has the physical CD been released in Europe?

There is also a Japaneese version with all the tracks + "Light Up The Dark" and the QVC version with the boring bounus DVD. It's all stuff that's on the greyson97 and greysonchancevevo Youtube channels.

They are not making any extra money by making some songs unavailable in the U.S.

It's all stuff that's on the greyson97 and greysonchancevevo Youtube channels. Do you know for a fact that this has been released? I really don't know, just asking you. I know there was talk of it, but we don't have any Japanese fans on here that I know of, so I don't know if and when that actually happened. My only guess as to why they do bonus releases in only some countries is to entice those in the country who has already imported a copy from the U.S. to buy it again when it is released in their country. Also, maybe to get us from the U.S. to get a copy as well. Then the extra sales will help push it up the charts?? Just a wild guess.

"Light Up The Dark" was released as the bonus track on the Scholastic version of the album. Can't begin to count the number of Scholastic Book orders I took from students while teaching.
Although it wasn't the case with HOTTN, I do know that some outlets, like Walmart, insist on a bonus track or two exclusive to them. The practice probably depends on the popularity of the artist and/or the clout of the record label.

To my knowledge, the Japanese version of HottN hasn't been released.
Waiting Outside the Lines Standard version had WOtL, Paparazzi, and Fire. Scholastic version has WotL, Paparazzi, and Light up the Dark.
Hold on 'Til the Night US Physical Edition: Main 10 + no extras US iTunes Edition: Main 10 + Slipping Away US Amazon.com Exclusive: Purple Sky QVC Edition: US Physical CD + QVC Exclusive DVD Philippines Physical Edition: Main 10 + Running Away (unreleased?) UK Physical Edition: Main 10 + Running Away (unreleased?) Japan Physical Edition: Main 10 + Light Up the Dark
Then there's gonna be the Hold on 'Til the Night Asia edition that will have all of the songs.
---
Most of the time that this happens, it is for pure monetary reasons. You'll have the standard US edition which comes out first. As it's released in rest of the world, they put on bonus tracks to encourage fans NOT to import from the US, and instead wait for a local release. When there's no special tracks, and it lags behind a US release, there is a lot of importing that doesn't help local business.
The QVC model follows the Walmart idea - the only way that they'd let Greyson be on there is if they got to release an exclusive copy, hence the DVD.
It does make collecting annoying, and in my personal opinion, it fosters pirating. Especially when you have different copies for different stores... like a Target exclusive, a Walmart exclusive, then the iTunes/Amazon exclusives... @_@

I understand the reasoning behind it, but like you say it is going to encourage pirating. I'm sure that a lot of fans here in the U.S. would be willing to pay to buy the CD from an Asian outlet to get the extra song, but that is not only unfair to the fan but also kind of hard to accomplish.

I could understand it being for monetary reasons IF you could actually buy the versions released to other countries through normal retail channels such as Amazon. But since it seems that the only way to get them is through someone who buys them as an individual & then ships them to you, it kind of defeats the purpose. For example, how many U.S. fans will be able to find a way to get the Asia special edition? (Unless they are lucky enough to win it here).

The UK edition of HOTTN has never been released, sadly. I know cause I live in the UK. It's on iTunes with Slipping Away, however.
