Wow, we're already rooting for 1000, awesome! I predict we will hit 1000 members on Feb. 17, 2012. What do I win if I am right? ;D LOL, I guess that's up to the admins. But I'll bite. What did you have in mind. I might be able to dig up an old vinyl copy of a Partridge Family album. Or Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Osmonds, Grand Funk, or Led Zeppilin III. Or, how about a "Herman's Hermits" Tour Book from 1966. I have a few 8 Track Tapes as well. If you want something more modern, I have the "Sweethearts" CD by Nelson Eddy & Jeanette McDonald. Any ideas?

g4g, your suggestions sound great (my generation and all), but I think lunch or dinner should we ever meet. Afterall, you were the one who started this thread and are solely responsible for the direction it takes.
Based my prediction on the fact that we are averaging 2.74 new members a day. If I get really bored, I'll graph the data to see if our membership is growing at a constant rate or actually accelerating. I have way too much time on my hands in retirement.
Just checked -- we joined this forum 1 day apart -- you, 4-26-11 and me on the 27th.

Would be interested in the chart though if you are ever really bored.

Hint: The Beatles will be at Beau Rivage in mid February. Well, they sure LOOK like The Beatles. P.S. Mapender & I think alike 'cos I started to put in the line about guessing the exact time, but I left it out in favor of the moldie oldies. I actually reached over & grabbed the first 45 (the kids are going "What???") off the top of the stack. It was "The Tavern Song" by The Brothers Four. I have no idea who that is or why I have the record. Of course, I have some old 78's as well. Do any of you younger folks have any idea what I'm talking about?

It really spiked during the 11-11-11 contest. But I'm sure that twitter has a lot to do with it. I remember that Mapender posted something & I was about 3rd to view it & comment. By the time I could type my post, the original post had over 100 views. Pretty amazing I think.

Kids are indeed going WHAT?! (; I know what a 45 is and a 33, but I've never seen a 78. All the numbers mean is how many rpm (revolutions per minute) the record/vinyl makes on a turntable (a.k.a. record player). 45s are smaller in size than 33s, but when you tend to think of a record you are probably envisioning a 33. I like this little know band called The Gaslight Anthem and one of my favorite songs has the line "We sing with our heroes 33 rounds per minute" and it is one of my favorite lyrics b/c that's something I love to do --> www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3sQsWuDHrwHeck, I can even keep up with the bands/groups that GU4G mentioned though I was raised on that kind of music. This "the "Sweethearts" CD by Nelson Eddy & Jeanette McDonald" threw me though... lol. Also, GU4G, I wore my Beau Rivage shirt today. I know you'd be interested

Nelson Eddy & Jeanette McDonald were two Movie Stars/ Singers from my mother's era. She was born in 1919. When she got old & I started taking care of her, I bought the CD's for her to listen to. She also liked Doris Day, Andy Williams & Perry Como. So, I have 78rpm records from the '30's - 40's. 33 rpm albums from the 50's, & 45rpm "singles" from the '60's - 80's (or whenever they quit making them). The 45's were the singles and the 33's were the albums. I have over 200 that I hope to pass on to Greyson before I die, but so far I haven't been able to contact the right people. Some are very valuable including the Beatles on VeeJay records. Google it & you will see that its worth quite a lot. Can't think of anyone better than Greyson to give them to because he would appreciate the vinyl and the history. As an afterthought, are there any Star Wars fans out there?

Well, I have some friends who are really into records and the 70-80s if that counts Now, to REALLY confuse everybody, "Three Dog Night" & "Alice Cooper". Ask your 70's friends. Greyson could do a good job on "One" or "Eighteen" I'll have to start posting this in the "Anything Goes" section. Anyone else out there listen to Phil Hendrie? My favorites are Bobby Dooley, President of the Western Estates Homeowner's Association and Jay Santos of the Citizen's Auxiliary Police.

This discussion is really making me feel old! I can still see Nelson Eddy in his Canadian mountie uniform singing Indian Love Call.
Believe it or not one of the first 78RPM records I owned was actually a piece of cardboard covered with brown plastic on one side. The title of the song was "Just Like Washington Crossed the Delaware General Pershing Will Cross the Rhine." No, I didn't actually go out and buy it (fortunately), it was one of about a dozen such records left in an apartment my family moved into when I was 10. The previous occupants also left an old turntable that I wired into an old upright Philco radio that became my "record player."

Warning to anyone under 60, or if you saw the movie "Mars Attacks", if you listen to this it might make your head explode. www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4GIaMtIcV4&feature=related
